All Employees of Ugandan Parastatal Fired

first_imgAround 2000 workers of the Uganda National Roads Authority (UNRA) have been fired following the appointment of a new Executive Director.The agency’s new boss Allen Kagina first duty in office is to counter corruption which led to the staff receiving a memo on their phones thanking them for their services and asked those interested to apply for their jobs afresh.Ms. Kagina was at the Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) for a decade before moving jobs. She increased URA’s revenue four times from 2 trillion Ugandan shillings in 2004 to 8 trillion Ugandan shillings by 2014; a major success that led to her new position in UNRA.Allen Kagina, Executive Director, Uganda National Roads AuthorityThe first to go were the department heads of human resource, procurement, finance and IT. Allen Kagina soon discovered the billion dollar scandal in the creation of ghost roads and payment of ghost property owners which led to the mass job loss. According to the Executive Director this was an indication that corruption in the organization went deeper than the heads.UNRA Act allows for the board to dismiss all employees so none of the staff members will have the grounds for a lawsuit.
